install Cassandra cluster

1, download and install VMware player from
2, download the Ubunut server editon 10.04 LTS (Lucid) image file from
3, install VMWare Player and then create two Ubuntu server instances with the iso file
log on each of the servers and install below
4, install SUN JDK, refer to Install Sun JDK 6 on Ubuntu
5, download and unzip Cassandra 0.6.2 (or latest)
cd ~
wget http://apache.ziply.com/cassandra/0.6.2/apache-cassandra-0.6.2-bin.tar.gz
tar zxvf apache-cassandra-0.6.2-bin.tar.gz
6, Find out the ip address of the two instances with command “ifconfig” – they are 192.168.179.129 and 192.168.179.128
7, update the storag-conf.xml in “apache-cassandra-0.6.2/conf” directory
change the “ReplicationFactor” to 2
change the “Seed” to the other machine’s IP
change the “ListenAddress” to its own IP
change the “ThriftAddress” to its own IP
8, start cassandra by “sudo ./bin/cassandra”
9, verify by “./bin/nodetool ring” it will show 2 cassandra instances are up.
